How Do I Get Rid Of Bad Breath?

By Dr Anthony Hua

When you go for an interview or are working closely with people, having bad breath is something you’re probably conscious about and want to avoid. Read on for some tips on how to get rid of bad breath.

1. Brush Your teeth twice a day

It may seem obvious, but the easiest way to maintain good oral hygiene is to brush your teeth twice a day. It’s recommended that you do this thoroughly for at least two minutes each time. Brushing your teeth helps to prevent a build-up of bacteria and plaque, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. In turn, these can cause bad breath.

2. consider mouthwash

If you don’t think your toothpaste is doing the trick, try using mouthwash each day as well. Not only does it freshen bad breath, but it also helps to reduce bacteria, fight tooth decay and prevent cavities.

3. stay hydrated

This one may sound a little strange, but there is logic to it! Saliva keeps your mouth moist and less welcoming to the bad bacteria that are attracted to food particles and decomposing cells. If you’re not drinking enough water, your production of saliva will decrease, meaning you’re missing out on its antibacterial action.

4. floss regularly

Much like brushing your teeth, flossing regularly can help to remove any lingering food particles and plaque. More advanced tools, such as water flossers, can further assist with hard-to-reach parts of your mouth.

5. REMEMBER YOUR TONGUE

A less common part of the brushing routine is your tongue, but it is just as important as your teeth! The tongue can be a hotspot for bacteria and plaque, so remembering to brush your tongue can be pivotal for preventing smelly breath. Tongue scrapers, either metal or plastic, can also be very useful in keeping your tongue clean.

6. AVOID CERTAIN FOODS

It’s no secret that some foods are especially pungent and can linger. The science behind this is that foods like garlic or onion include strong-smelling substances which make their way into the bloodstream, therefore releasing the scent when you breathe out. Try avoiding these foods for a while and see if it helps.
