Recent advances in dental materials and techniques are literally changing the face of dentistry. Traditional amalgam fillings have been replaced by tooth-coloured composite resin. The bonding of composite resin is much more comfortable and less invasive as it requires less tooth structure to be removed compared to amalgam fillings.
In comparison to amalgam fillings, composite resin is a much safer alternative. They don’t contain mercury or expand causing the tooth to potentially crack. It can be applied on both anterior and posterior teeth and is a subtle, natural way to repair decayed or damaged teeth.
How do I know if I need a filling?
Typically composite resin fillings are a good option where there is up to 50% tooth decay or damage present that can be repaired. In cases of more severe damage, Dr Hua may suggest a porcelain onlay or crown to help reinforce the tooth structure for a more long-term solution.
